Getting Started with Label Printing in PypeServer

This document explains what PypeServer provides for Label Printing, what the customer must procure and do to set up NiceLabel and label printing, and links to training materials.

See this tutorial for an overview on the label printing process. https://youtu.be/M8ZsqlPGzVw

What PypeServer provides

NiceLabel Powerforms Suite (installed on the PypeServer computer, and registered with license)

Label printing works in PypeServer in conjunction with a third party application NiceLabel, which is used for designing label templates that are connected to the PypeServer database, and then from within PypeServer, printing the labels specific to each part.

A sample NiceLabel Template connected to the PypeServer database.

This template eliminates the need to connect your templates to the PypeServer Database. Just copy this one for any new template, and then edit as needed.

  • Templates are stored in \\PYPESERVER\PypeServer\PypeServer Documents\Label Printing\Templates

  • If your company renames \\PYPESERVER then this link will contain that computer name instead.

Printer Stand/Enclosure (optional purchase from PypeServer)

  • As a separate purchase option, PypeServer offers a printer stand/enclosure with filtered forced-air for housing a SATO CL4NX printer, or printer similar in size. Please contact PypeServer for more information on the stand.

What Customers will need to provide and do

Customers must provide:

  • A label printer. You can buy what label printer you want, so long as it works with NiceLabel.

    • PypeServer does its internal testing using the SATO CL4NX, which is also being used by numerous customers. It prints up to a 4" label on numerous standard label types.

    • This printer works both as a USB connection or (more common configuration) over TCP on the LAN.

    • Prior to purchasing a label printer, customers should check with NiceLabel to make sure they have drivers for that that printer. Check for drivers here.

  • Label or ink transfer materials.

  • Recommended due to the plasma dust: an enclosure for the printer. As noted above PypeServer sells an enclosure for a specific printer size.

Installing NiceLabel on Additional Computers

Requirements

  1. All computers must be on the same Domain or workgroup.

  2. The first install of NiceLabel must always be done on the PypeServer kiosk.

    1. On the PypeServer kiosk you will activate the license AND fill out all the information required for activation,

  3. When you install NiceLabel on other computers on the same Domain or workgroup, you will:

DO THIS BEFORE INSTALLING NiceLabel on other computers

  • If using NiceLabel across your Domain or workgroup, your IT support will need to run these two services (on the \\PYPESERVER computer) with network privileges so the system can delegate licenses across the LAN

Installation

Copy the \\PYPESERVER\PypeServer Staging\Nicelabel<revision>.exe to your local computer and install it.

During the install:

  1. Enter the NiceLabel license when installing the product (so the system knows what to install.) If the install does not ask for a license, it may have found the license on the Domain.

    1. If the System asks you what to install, choose Power Forms Suite.

During Activation

  1. Enter the NiceLabel license when activating the application. When you enter the license at this step, the activation form must automatically fill out the fields below the license entry. If after entering the license, the activation process does not AUTOMATICALLY fill out the rest of the form:

    1. DO NOT fill out the form and continue the install or the licensing system will be violated and you will need to contact NiceLabel support.

    2. The system is not finding the license as required. Make sure that the \\PypeServer computer is running, can be accessed from the computer where you are activating the NiceLabel license, and that the services discussed in section 1 of this document have the appropriate level of network access rights.

    3. If all this is set up correctly, please contact NiceLabel support

      1. via email or phone: https://www.nicelabel.com/support

      2. Or by opening a support ticket: https://www.nicelabel.com/support/technical-support
