FAQ: Licensing

FAQ: Licensing

How does PypeServer licensing work?

Our products are licensed on a monthly or annual subscription. A primary product license enables the product to be used per the licensing terms. Additional licenses can be added to support more users and enable more features.

PypeServer uses CodeMeter from WIBU (www.wibu.com) for our license management. CodeMeter stores licenses in a "container" that can be either a "machine license" consisting of encrypted files bound to a computer, or a hardware dongle that can be moved to another computer. Licenses are stored using either of these storage systems on a computer where the CodeMeter License service reads the licenses during licensing retrieval and validation.

How does PypeServer Enterprise manage licensing?

PypeServer Enterprise is primarily licensed as an annual subscription but additional user and add-in licenses can be pro-rated to synchronize their subscription periods with the primary license. The support team will install the CodeMeter License service and one or more Enterprise licenses on the kiosk computer. Licenses for additional users and features like importing can be purchased from our portal or by calling our sales department.

How does Enterprise licensing work for remote seats?

Remove seats require that CodeMeter be installed to access the licenses located on the kiosk computer. The Enterprise installer will add the CodeMeter runtime which decrypts the application files and checks out licenses from the kiosk server. Remote licenses are checked out on start of Enterprise and are checked back in when the remote seat is stopped or due to a network connection timeout, such as the remote seat was put to sleep or hibernated.

Enterprise can be installed on many computers in the shop and the number of remote seats that are concurrently running is are enforced by the number of remote licenses stored in the kiosk's CodeMeter license server. If a dedicated remote access license is required, a separate license container  can be provided for that remote computer.

How does PypeServer Lyte manage licensing?

PypeServer Lyte can be licensed per machine as an annual or monthly subscription. Each license is bound to the kiosk/machine computer and cannot be transferred. Dongle based licensing is not available. Licenses can be purchased from our Portal or by calling our sales department.

What if the PypeServer application cannot find a license?

If you have installed PypeServer on a remote computer and upon starting the app see this window, here are probable causes that can be easily fixed:

1. If never connected yet, and know everything is up to date:
a. You may not be able to see the PYPESERVER computer on the LAN.  Please check that you can see PYPESERER on your network list of computers.
b. Your firewalls on either side must allow the CodeMeter License Server through.  See the section Firewalls and Security.

2. If all the licenses are checked out (by other remote users), this will appear.
a. In some rare instances a PypeServer application fails to quit as a process (even though the UI quits).  You may need to search for that running on the last computer that ran the app.  (This has actually never happened remotely, but it has happened a few times at the machine on much older versions.)
b. You can see what computers have licenses checked out by running the “PypeServer Licenses” application from the Start menu in the PypeServer folder.

3. Remote licenses have simply expired.  This will be indicated when trying to start PypeServer.

4. The CodeMeter license dongle could be unplugged or the USB port in which it is plugged into could have failed.

5. If you are running the application remotely, then the application might not be looking to the correct location for the license.   You can open the CodeMeter Control Center and select the server by name, or if that is not working then by IPV4 address.  This shows both (the address will be different for your machine):

6. Your remote PypeServer application could be out of date, which would fail this way if using out of date CodeMeter access tools.

7. The CodeMeter License Server one the PYPESERVER kiosk could be turned off.   Here is how you check.  Start CodeMeter Control Center (a normal Windows App) and follow the lines.

8. Contact our Technical Support team for assistance.
