About CodeMeter

The licensing system is the CodeMeter security system offered by WIBU (www.wibu.com).  It consists of a set of licensees stored in a USB dongle or encrypted file at the PypeServer Kiosk. A WIBU CodeMeter License Service runs on the Kiosk where the licenses are stored. Enterprise seats contact the Kiosk system to find their licenses (This is set up on remote installs.)  By default, remote access looks for a computer named PYPESERVER.
  1. You can install the remote application in as many locations as you want.
  2. The Kiosk also has a local license for running Enterprise at the machine.
  3. The system is completely dependent on its connection with SQL so any offline mode is not feasible.

Architecture

Before Enterprise v4.4

Each remote computer running Enterprise must have a local copy of CodeMeter Runtime installed. This local install is configured by PypeServer to proxy all license requests to the CodeMeter License Server at the Kiosk, which then retrieves a license from the local licenses container and sends a license back to the remote computer.

Enterprise v4.4

Enterprise will store a copy of the CodeMeter licenses in the SQL database, allowing remote seats to use the license stored in the database instead of using the local CodeMeter Runtime installation to retrieve an Enterprise license. This database Site License is regularly updated by the Kiosk system hosting the CodeMeter License Server. For redundancy and fail-over, additional computers (seats) can be configured and authorized to update the database Site License. This requires installing a local CodeMeter Runtime configured to retrieve licenses from the CodeMeter License Server located in the Kiosk or in-house data center.

Note: All Enterprise seats will check the database hourly for a valid license. A valid license is determined by both the Enterprise License expire date set during license purchase, and the Site License heartbeat timestamp set by the last update by the kiosk or other authorized seat. The database Site License timestamp must be refreshed by either the Kiosk or another online CodeMeter configured system at at least once every 5 days. The Site License will expire when the last updated timestamp for the Site License is older than 5 days.

Troubleshooting

License Serving Computer Not Found

The license serving computer is delivered with the name \\PYPESERVER.  Your IT department may have renamed that computer.  Also, if you have multiple machines, you will have multiple PypeServer computers, though they will be named differently if they are running on the same SQL server.

  1.  The most common problems for the computer not being found:
  2. The Computer has been turned off.  (Operators tend to do this.)
  3. The Computer is not on the LAN
  4. Your IT department may have set up a wireless connection to the computer.
    1. This will not work around plasma cutters or welding.  You will have intermittent connectivity which will not work.
  5. The Computer is not joined to your Domain.  This causes intermittent connectivity problems.
  6. The Computer’s firewalls are on and no ports are open for the CodeMeter License Server to communicate through.
    1. This often happens when the computer is added to the domain.
  7. The CodeMeter server does not have "Network Server" access set to Enabled.
    1. Check here to verify it is enabled: CodeMeter Configuration -> Server Access

Checking for the Computer

First just see if, from your computer, you can see the \\PYPESERVER computer.

·       Start Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer).

o   Click the Start button then type into the search box.

o   You should see the PYPESERVER computer (or whatever your IT dept. named it.

o   If you don’t, please contact your IT department and explain that you need access to this computer.

No Available License Found

This assumes that the License Serving computer was found.

No licenses available may be caused by these situations.

·       Your company has not purchased any remote seat licenses

o   Contact PypeServer for remote seat licensing.

·       The remote licenses are all checked out.

o   The PypeServer Licenses application can help you identify who currently has a license checked out.

·       Your computer’s CodeMeter licensing system is not looking to the correct computer for the license.

o   On Install of the remote PypeServer application, the CodeMeter system, is configured to look to \\PYPESERVER for licenses.  If the computer name has been changed, please contact PypeServer for assistance.

o   To set CodeMeter to look in the right place for licenses, click on this link:  http://localhost:22350/configuration/server_search_list.html

§  If that link doesn’t get you to the site below you can also start CodeMeter Control Center, click WebAdmin, and then click Configuration Tab, which will take you to the server search list.

§  On the Server Search List, you can “add new Server” and add the name of the computer with the WIBU licenses.

·       An instance of PypeServer is already running on your computer.  If you are seeing this on the PypeServer kiosk itself, this is a likely cause.

o   Some component of PypeServer may remain running after being shut down.  You may try restarting your computer to see if this fixes the problem.  (Note that this seldom ever occurs.  If you know how, you can also look for PypeServer.exe among the running processes in the Task Manager.

License Expired

You may visit our PypeServer Portal or contact PypeServer for license renewal.
